works great . January 7, 2010 Keith A. Sharp (norman oklahoma) The actron cp7875 pocket Thermometer works great. I love the light that comes on when you press the black button, it is also a very good temp. taker I tested it with an other thermometer it was right on,you can use this for health and for ghosts hunting.
Cheap, easy to use, kid-friendly, infrared thermometer December 28, 2009 M. Burrows (Seattle, WA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a very reasonably-priced thermometer which I had purchased for me from Amazon via my wish list.
Pros:
+ Cheap
+ Accurate (for cost)
+ Kid-friendly. There is no laser and it is easy to hold (~4" long, ~1" wide) with a single, large, button
+ Responsive. Repeatedly samples heat source being pointed at and keeps a maximum reading
+ Automatically turns off after ~5 second delay after button is released to save battery
Cons:
- Have to be close to the object for accurate heat readings. Due to the 90 degree field of view for the infrared sensor, this thermometer needs to be maximally the size of the object being measured away, eg. you should read a 12" ceiling heat vent from about 12" away to ensure accuracy.
- Battery is non-standard. A CR2032 (PC motherboard-esque large cell battery) is used rather than AAA or AA.
Overall this is a fairly accurate (box states +/- 2%), responsive infrared thermometer that doesn't require physical contact with heat source.
I would recommend it for home experiments and kids.
I would *not* recommend this for working on a car. As mentioned above in order to read the temperatures of individual exhaust outputs from a cylinder your hand would need to be in the engine bay close to a lot of moving parts. I would recommend seeking an infrared thermometer with a laser and a narrower field of view. I note this as I see this is tagged with automotive and garage keywords.
Hope this helps, Mike
Impressive product! December 3, 2009 Cheryl L. Graham (Sellersburg, IN USA) This is an impressive product for its size and affordable price! I was thoroughly impressed with the speed of delivery, and the item is exactly as described online...it's been an enormous asset on several investigations so far, and my team leader has already asked where she can find one!

Hi I purchased this neat little non contact thermometer for my wife as a christmas gift last year since she is a great big fan of Grant And Jay Which We both consider them to be the Original Ghost Hunters. There are so many out there now that everytime you turn on the Tv you see an advertisment for a new Ghost Hunting Show,We have watched them all ,But none meet nor surpass Grant And Jay,but back to the Actron CP7875 thermometer. It is a great little thermometer,But lacks for catching temps at a distance,Which is extreemly important in Ghost Hunts,But for up close measurements you can't beat it for the price. It is real handy around the house and for working on the car when you need to check for a hot manifold or spark plug. I would recommend this gadget as it is economical and very accurate.
Very handy around the house September 3, 2009 Paul Havemann (NY metro) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this as a Gold Box item for about $20, and it's definitely worth that. It has no laser pointer, and only a one-to-one spot ratio, so it's far from the best -- but you'll find many uses for it.
How cold is the air coming from your home's or car's AC vents? Is that baby bottle you just microwaved too hot? I'm looking forward to checking the temperature of my walls and windows in the winter. And I can finally determine the accuracy of the temperature setting on my electric frypans and the like. (Its maximum reading is 425 degrees F, which makes it useful for many if not all cooking surfaces.)
