Amazon.com essential video From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs. Ariel can only succeed if she receives true love's kiss in a few day's time and she needs all the help she can from a singing crab named Sebastian, a loudmouth seagull, and a flounder. The lyrics and music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are top form: witty and relevant, and they advance the story (go on, hum a few bars of "Under the Sea"). Mermaid put animation back on the studio's "to do" list and was responsible for ushering Beauty and the Beast to theaters. A modern Disney classic. --Keith Simanton

TLM August 30, 2010 Alice Kingsley (Casper, WY USA) I love The Little Mermaid. It's kind of based on my life except I don't break rules and I don't actually marry a human. When I read a part in my short Story The Palace Thief, when I read the passage: "I felt like an exhausted swimmer trying to climb a slippery wall out of the sea." that's what makes me want to get back to it. I know life in this movie doesn't work that way but ever since I was 11, I was excited to see this.
got cheated August 28, 2010 nnguyen 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
seller send old looking (look like a copy not original). Item request was supposed to be new. Charged high price too.
Huge disappointment August 16, 2010 Margaret Anne I bought this, brand new, for my niece's birthday. She was so excited, she opened it immediately to watch with all of the kids, but it was unplayable. Turns out there were huge scratches on the back. I e-mailed the seller with this dilemma, and asked of a return policy, and I still have not heard back from them. My first disappointing purchase from amazon.
Thank God for Amazon August 13, 2010 cnfuhrer I started collecting Disney animated movies right after this one went back into the vault. Thank God for Amazon.com so I could order this one and add it to my collection. The songs in this movie are by far some of my very favorite songs in any Disney animated movie. I do believe if this movie was released to theaters today brand new, it would do as well, if not better, than it did when it first came out. So cute!
Bad August 12, 2010 Never use Amazon 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this product for my daughter birthday, arrive early at my house, but it didn't work. We couldn't see the movie, not only it was fake, it was damage/defective. It was impossible to reach the vendor Gift Shop, but I receive a refund from Amazon a week later, but no movie.
First and last time that we will use Amazon, never again.
